to the very first edition of ART/ICLE, my art studio newsletter!
The past few months have been a whirlwind of activity:
First was the art show in April at The Frank and Katrina Basile Gallery at The District Theatre.
Followed by moving into a studio at The Factory Arts District North, Studio S51 on the Second Floor!
And most recently, my very successful and very first First Friday in my first art studio earlier this month!
Thank you to the familiar faces who could make it out to First Fiday in person to support, and to those who sent well-wishes in their absence - I appreciated recieving those, too!
There are more First Fridays to come, more new faces to befriend, and - most importantly - more art to make!
So what's up next in the studio next? READ ON!
Save the dates:
Paint A Wall Hanging
Create A Still Life Collage
Make An Altered Book

Let's Get Creative! 45-minute Studio Challenge
Join me and a small group of soon-to-be artists, writers, and creatives on Sunday, June 28, 2026, as I guide you in creating a piece of art to take home! If you've ever said "I wish I was an artist / writer / creative" the time to make that a reality is now!
Each project incorporates specific art principles
Participants use the same steps to create their piece of art, yet every work of art will be unique!
I'll be showcasing artwork in Marmon Hall, located on the first floor of the Factory Arts District North! The exhibition will run until Thursday, July 16, 2026. This is an extra special group show that you won't want to miss!
The recent acquisition of an SLR camera has me slowing down, looking a little longer, a little closer, and being present, experiencing the wonder around us all. ~
Jill Schnellenberger (@bluedahliacrochet on Instagram) is a fiber artist of great skill! We frequently wind up at the same coffee shop - she working on commissions, me working on any number of projects, art or otherwise! This time she was creating 4 precious dolls for a commission - they are just as cute and detailed as can be!

ART: I'm intrigued by the transparancy as well as the concept of pattern that will be on display in Jannell Summer's upcoming show Patterns As Proof: A Mid Life at Storage Space Gallery, 121 E 34th St., 46205 on Friday, June 26th, 2026. A self-taught artist, DJ, and musician, she will be performing as well as displaying work that are "material collages, mixed media, and sacred ephemera woven, painted, assembled, and destroyed."
MORE THEATRE: IF Theatre, 719 E. St. Clair St., 46203, is opening the story-telling experience "FOLKS", a powerful one-man theatrical experience written, directed, and starring Josiah Ray McCruiston, a modern-day Griot, on Friday June 19, 2026; it runs through June 28, 2026. Expect part concert, part ritual, part theatrical event that will be sure to bring out all the emotions! I'm particularily interested in the music and storytelling aspects, however this opportunity to have this entire experience is one I don't want to pass up!
MUSIC: I'm always down to hear some Pretenders, and to hear the songs live by way of 'Rents, a Pretender's tribute band, playing The Melody Inn, 3826 N Illinois St., 46208, on Friday July 10th is just fine with me! Tickets are $12 in advance, and The Redundants (Ska) and Renee Merrifield (originals and classics) are playing, too!
Command Coffee, located near Midtown at 2910 N. College Ave., 46205 and The Human Bean, located between Broad Ripple and Midtown at 5405 N. Keystone Ave., 46220, are quickly becoming my go-to spots for those studio days when I ned a nice caffinated (or non-caffeinated!) pick-me up! What makes them special: Each coffee shop offers really great sandwiches in addition to so may great drinks! Command Coffee roasts their own beans in-house, ensuring freshness, and you can view their roasting set-up from their indoor seating area. Current hours are 6am - 6pm! The Human Bean is drive-thru only, but are currently open from 5am to 9pm!
Here are a few inspiration ideas to get your started! Take a quick minute and do the challenge right this very second!
Outer space (think Nebulas, Contellations, Spaceships and Martians!)
Wide open or very tiny or closed spaces
Places that have meaning or that peak your interest
Where you are sitting or standing right now!
The sky (think light and airy, clouds and cotton balls!)
