to the second edition of ART/ICLE, my art studio newsletter!

This week is crunch-time preparing for Fresh Perspectives, which opens Friday July 3, 2026 in the Marmon Hall in the Factory Arts North Building!

I've planned some large-scale figurative as well as abstract works, and having a studio where I can work a little (ok, a LOT) larger and host Creativity Sessions has been really nice!

I hope you can make it out! The opening is from 5pm to 9pm. I'll be in my studio from 6pm to 7pm, then will make my way to Marmon Hall and be there from 7pm to 9pm. More details are given below!

So what's up next
in the studio next?

Let's Get Creative!
45-minute Studio Challenge

The first session was amazing, and if you've ever wanted to give art a try then join me and a small group of soon-to-be artists, writers, and creatives!

I need your help to plan the next sessions though!

What days and times would work better for you? Are you interested in open studios, where you get to be guided as you play around with different materials, or do you prefer to have the focus of a project idea to make?

  • Each project incorporates specific art principles
  • Participants use the same steps to create their piece of art, yet every work of art will be unique!

4 Sights:
Through The Lens

The recent acquisition of an SLR camera has me slowing down, looking a little longer, a little closer, and being present, experiencing the wonder around us all.
~

Last weekend I had the pleasure of meeting Dua and tasting her variety of Lebanese baked goods at a fundraiser.

Her neighbor was also having a sale, and there I found a wonderous mix of textiles and textures to photograph.

Here are four of my favorites:

3 Things:
I'm in LOVE!

  • CERAMICS: Ever heard of ceramic trading cards? Me neither! Kelli Nina Perkins makes these super amazing ACEOs, which are 2.5 inch by 3.5 inch original pieces of collectible art!

I've made plenty of ACEOs (the 'Littles' and 'Olly's' series) however I've never seen them in clay! How cool!

  • BOOKS: Gather at The Whispering Shelf
for a book exchange on Sunday, July 12, 2026, from12-3pm!

Located at 414 N College Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46202, they will be collecting personal care and menstrual items for Project Period Indy!

As a thank you to all those who donate, the bookshop will have a special collection of books to giveaway!
  • MUSIC: If you're a fan of the blues, especially slide guitar, then you MUST check out the 3-string electric resonator guitars my friend Jeff Russell makes!

I have my own that I'm learning slide on (I'm a fan of glass slides myself!).

These unique pieces of playable art are currently on sale online at UncleAudsVintage.com!

2 Places:
Destination Focaccia!

Tina, a lovely woman who came to see my artwork at The District Theatre in April, asked for a few recipes I made for my opening reception, including for the foccacia and the dips --- and I just realized my email draft deleted, and neither saved nor sent! Ack!

So I'm offering up links to two really great base focaccia recipes that I like to use, along with the flavor combinations I served at the opening so you can get ready to replicate the recipe at home!

Next week I'll take you into my baking kitchen to walk through some tips to replicating what was dubbed "Marry Me Focaccia"!
